Come Dec. 17, NLE Choppa will release the new album Me vs. Me, which will come with 16 songs — including the already released standouts “Mmm Hmm,” “Final Warning,” “Jumpin” with Polo G, and “I.Y.B.,” the last of which the Memphis emcee blessed his fans with last week. Produced by Quay Global, the track sees Choppa taking things back to earlier days in regards to its hard-hitting subject matter:
“Pretty Ricky glizzy, but this shit can get ugly, shoot a nigga in his face, if he start muggin’, hop in the steamer, this bitch is a Beamer, bake in the kitchen like I was Anita, say she want kids, so I’m gonna feed her, her nigga got wrong, so I had to beat him, don’t get wrong, bitch, I love redrum, got a whole lotta bread, I ain’t talkin’ ‘bout crumbs…”
Directed by Krispy Kam, the new visual for “I.Y.B.” matches its high energy with shots of Choppa and his well-armed crew turning up in difference locations — in (and on top of) a SUV, in a graffiti-filled room, and more. Both quick-fire dancing and random wrestling moves are in full abundance throughout the clip.
As you’re probably aware, 2020 was a huge year for NLE Choppa, beginning with his joining the likes of Fivio Foreign, Rod Wave, Lil Keed, Jack Harlow, and Polo G as one of last year’s XXL Freshmen. Choppa then followed that with the arrival of his debut LP Top Shotta, a 20-track offering that saw a wealth of contributions from Latto, Roddy Ricch, Chief Keef, and Lil Baby. The project was a commercial success, earning him both a top ten placement on the Billboard 200 and a subsequent Gold certification. Months later, he would return with the mixtape From Dark To Light, a more positively-directed effort that contained 13 cuts and assists from Big Sean and Ink.
