After years of producing for some of the industry’s most popular names including Kendrick Lamar and YG, L.A. native Blxst had a great take off with his career with his debut album, No Love Lost (released last year). The project combines the most ear-pleasing qualities of both R&B and hip-hop, both being genres that he weaves in and out of with ease and impressive finesse. Since then, he has continued to make a name for himself and today (July 15), the newly appointed 2021 XXL Freshman links with fellow L.A. rapper Bino Rideaux to deliver a substantial follow up to their 2019 effort Sixtape with Sixtape 2.
Before dropping the project, the two west coast natives dropped off a visual for the lead single “Movie.” The visual finds the rappers employing themselves at a dysfunctional car wash headed by an equally dysfunctional manager. After pushing through the chaos, Blxst and Bino take over the property to throw a feel-good party in the warm west coast sun. Simultaneously, fans got the news that Sixtape 2 would arrive today and rightfully so, they were more than happy with the news.
The effort most certainly will continue the streak both rappers have been on while adding to strong collaborations they’ve already presented in their respective catalogs. Their recent songs together include “Wrong Or Right (Remix)” from Blxst’s No Love Lost and “Brand New” from Bino’s Outside.
With Sixtape 2 spanning a total of 12 records, Blxst and Bino provide the perfect west coast vibes through the entire project. A little over a week ago, Blxst took to Twitter to make a solid claim — which turns out to be quite true judging from the sound of it: “Summer don’t start til SIXTAPE 2 drop 7.16.”
If you have been snoozing on Blxst and Bino (as a duo and separate acts) thus far, don’t worry. It’s never too late to join the party! Stream Sixtape 2 now.
