Kendrick Lamar turns 34 today (June 17), and he has more to celebrate than another year of life. According to chart data, the Compton rapper’s album g ood kid, m.A.A.d. city recently hit a milestone on the Billboard 200 chart. Since making its debut as the number two record on the music list in 2012, it has spent 450 weeks — over eight years — there, maintaining its position as the longest charting hip-hop studio album in history.

good kid, m.A.A.d. city, which followed Kendrick’s Section. 80 debut, dropped in October 2012 featuring songs like “Swimming Pools,” “Poetic Justice” and “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe.” It has since been certified triple platinum.

Following its success, the West Coast star released To Pimp A Butterfly in 2015. His last album, DAMN, came out nearly two years later in 2017, and now, fans are hoping to hear some new music.

Earlier this month, The Game suggested that a new Kendrick album is on the way.

“I talked to [TDE Founder] Top Dawg,” he said. “You know, he told me Kendrick ‘bout to hit niggas with some shit real soon and shit. So, you know, who knows how real soon that is but if Kendrick is working, that shit is always major and that’s my nigga. Love that nigga to death — all of TDE.”

News of Kendrick’s headlining spot at the Day N Vegas festival in November also led to beliefs that the emcee will soon return from his musical hiatus. He reportedly has six albums worth of material to pull from.

“For Kendrick alone, let me say I think we could put together like six albums,” MixedByAli revealed on “The ETCs” podcast. Whether it’s solo music or the fan-requested album with J. Cole, Kendrick’s supporters are eagerly awaiting his comeback.
