Three months removed from his tragic death, a mural created to honor DMX has been unveiled in his hometown.
Earlier today (July 13), a mural painted in honor of X was revealed at Yonkers’ Calcagno Homes, a place that the late rapper once called home. According to NBC’s local New York affiliate, it was painted by New York City artist Floyd Simmons, who famously painted a mural of Big L in Harlem years ago.
Known for his gruff delivery and lyrics that could be as gruesome as they were vulnerable, X cultivated legions of fans before his untimely death after suffering massive heart attack. The new DMX mural is a monument to the impact he had on fans across the globe.
The unveiling of the mural arrives a few weeks after Swizz Beatz, Busta Rhymes and more delivered a memorable DMX tribute at the BET Awards 2021. For the tribute, they performed a medley of X’s greatest hits for the crowd, reminding fans of all the songs that helped make up the career of the legendary rapper.
One week before the BET Awards, DMX’s fiancée, Desiree Lindstrom, paid tribute to the rapper with an Instagram post she uploaded on Father’s Day.
“SCREAMING HAPPY FATHERS DAY ALL THE WAY TO THE HEAVENS ABOVE…!” she captioned the post. “Earl you were such an amazing, protective, loving, inspiring, hands-on, incredible father! I thank God that [Exodus] had a father like you! I appreciate every moment you had spent with Exodus… In my eyes you are the best father a mother could [have] asked for when it comes to her child!”
She continued: “Thanking God and you for all these memories of you being a wonderful father! I love and miss you so much… I know in my heart you are our guardian angel! Please continue to watch over us!”
