Famed New York rapper and international superstar DMX has sadly passed away at the age of 50 following a heart attack.
The hip hop community, specifically fans of DMX, received shocking news on Saturday (April 3) morning when TMZ revealed that the legendary Ruff Ryders rapper was rushed to the hospital on Friday (April 2) night after reportedly having a drug overdose. According to the news outlet, X wasn’t doing very well. In fact, he was reportedly in “grave condition” after having a heart attack that stemmed from his supposed overdose.
In a statement to press, X’s family said:
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
As REVOLT previously reported, the famed MC was quickly transported to a medical facility in White Plains, New York and was placed in the critical care unit. Fans of his, as well as Ruff Ryders, would soon show up in front of the medical facility he stayed in to celebrate his legacy, and pray that he recovered. Unfortunately, X would not.
Once news of his condition broke, countless supporters across the world, as well as friends and colleagues of X began sending prayers up for him on social media. From fellow Ruff Ryders artist Swizz Beatz to other well-respected rap figures such as Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube Ja Rule, Ice T and Rick Ross to even TV/film stars like Gabrielle Union and Viola Davis and many more, the community came together to honor X.
Supporters and loved ones of X would even hold a vigil outside of White Plains Hospital earlier this week to honor the legend.
One of the last times we saw the iconic Ruff Ryder was last year when he went head-to-head with Snoop Dogg in Verzuz. It was a fun occasion and he looked great.
At the time, the battle of the dogs pulled in millions of viewers who needed a pick-me-up as the pandemic was ravaging the world — and DMX certainly delivered and put on a show for the dog ages. It was a highlight of 2020 for all who loved him.
Rest in perfect peace to the one and only DMX! Your musical impact will live on and you will never be forgotten!
