Back in May, City Girls brought a previously leaked single titled “Twerkulator” to streaming platforms, a big plus for fans of the Afrika Bambataa & The Soulsonic Force-sampling single. Weeks after performing the energetic cut for this year’s BET Awards, the Miami duo liberate a new visual for the Mr. Hanky-produced track, which — as the title should suggest — is all about moving your body on the dance floor:
“Right cheek, left cheek wit’ it, fun size, on fleek wit’ it, slim thick, petite wit’ it, G-wag with the key missing, one time for my freak bitches, after hour, no sleep bitches, when I get my freak on, they throwin’ money like Meech home, when I do my dance, money fight, these niggas throwin’ bands, JT, I ain’t playin’, lil’ bitch, I’on want your man, but these rich niggas throwin’ paper, now it’s time for the twerkulator…”
Directed by the legendary Missy Elliott, the accompanying clip starts off with what appears to be a typical “city” scene with locals before an earthquake strike thanks to a giant, twerking woman — effectively kicking off a series of colorful dance scenes featuring JT, Yung Miami, and a slew of dancers. Simply put, it’s virtually impossible to watch this without breaking out into a groove. Unfortunately, Missy doesn’t make an appearance in the video.
Last year, City Girls dropped off their sophomore studio album City on Lock, which saw 15-tracks and notable appearances from Doja Cat, Yo Gotti, Lil Durk, and Lil Baby. It was on this album that “Twerkulator” was originally meant to appear — unfortunately, JT revealed on social media that clearance issues caused it to be shelved for that moment:
Get your gyrating shoes on and press play on City Girl’s “Twerkulator” below. Hopefully, a new body of work is somewhere on the horizon.
