The City Girls are celebrating the placement of their latest track on the Billboard Hot 100. On Tuesday (June 1), chart data revealed that the rap duo’s viral hit “Twerkulator” entered the music list at No. 51. The news excited JT, who took to Instagram to announce and express gratitude for her group’s latest accomplishment.
“PERIOD! Our first solo debut,” wrote JT alongside a screenshot of the chart data. “I’m so happy for us because we’re always counted out. I heard ‘you missed it’ so many times when I got out! Honestly we just getting started! After prison, deaths, leaked albums, I’m soooo thankful!!!” she continued.
“Even thou[gh] we gave ‘Jobs,’ ‘Pussy Talk’ & fire ass remixes. Thank GOD, our team, the city girls/boys, tik tokers & the mf twerkulatorsssss! Now let’s shoot a movie & request it at radio.”
Yung Miami commented under the post writing, “Bitch don’t play with us.” She also shared JT’s post on her Instagram Story.
The entry of “Twerkulator” into the Billboard Hot 100 comes days after the song’s release on May 21. The single was reportedly a part of the City Girls’ sophomore effort, City on Lock, but their record label, Quality Control Music, was unable to get the “Planet Rock” sample cleared on time. In recent months, the track leaked and made its way to Tik Tok, where it went viral alongside an accompanying dance. Nearly a year after the album dropped, Africa Bambaataa and The Soulsonic Force cleared the record, allowing JT and Yung Miami to finally come out with the track.
As of now, there is no video for “Twerkulator,” but Halle Berry may possibly make an appearance when its time for the girls to shoot a visual. Last week, a social media user posted a tweet that showed the actress dancing in the film Strictly Business as the song played the background. “Halle Berry been ready for the ‘Twerkulator,’” the caption read, to which the Hollywood star replied, “Somebody tell my girls @thegirljt and @yungmiami to call me.” Upon getting wind of Berry’s post, Miami responded with eye emojis. JT, on the contrary, suggested Berry make an appearance as her character Nisi from B.A.P.S.
