Last month, Jorja Smith dropped off her Be Right Back EP, which included eight songs and a single assist from Shaybo. She now returns to share the official video for “Home.” While Jorja plays the role of the nanny, the video depicts a lady slowly realizing the life she currently lives is not what fulfills her. In the song, Jorja sings about the realities that may hit someone when they realize their house does not feel like a home:
One day I said I would be rich and I said I’d have a family/ Would I really be content with my husband and his family? Oh/ What’s worse than lookin’ at my neighbors pretendin’ that they’re happy, mm-mm/ Is one day lookin’ at myself and I’m sayin’ that I’m sorry, mm
Hear me out, hear me out now, I’ll be right home/ Called you twice already now, please pick up the phone/ Hear me out, hear me out now, I’ll be right home/ I don’t know, I don’t know why, but I made it home
It’s been three years since Jorja Smith blessed us with her debut LP Lost & Found, a 12-track project that received critical acclaim and pushed the rising songstress to the forefront of today’s soul and R&B. In addition to landing on charts around the globe, the album also helped Smith earn a Best British Female Artist Award at the 2019 Brit Awards, as well as a Grammy nod for Best New Artist in the same year. In addition to Lost & Found, Smith also liberated loose cuts like “Be Honest” with Burna Boy and “Come Over” with Popcaan, and contributed to songs by Maverick Sabra, Enny, and Brent Faiyaz’s Sonder.
