Earlier this month, Kawhi Leonard took a break from basketball to reveal that he and longtime friend Mikey Williams were developing a music project titled Culture Jam. In addition to the overall shock of seeing the NBA champion step outside of his usual quiet demeanor, fans also got a preview of what to expect via “Everything Different,” a wavy, melodic cut that features YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Rod Wave.
Produced by Mally Mall and Diego Ave, the track sees the young stars harmonizing about money, women, and — specifically in regards to Rod Wave — past struggles and backstabbing friends:
“And it be too much on my mind, Ion’t even know where I should start, I tell ‘em, ‘I’ll be fine,’ but deep inside, I been scarred, I tatted, ‘Hard Times,’ for all the times that it was hard, it been a bumpy ride, I was thinkin’ ‘bout puttin’ the car in park, like freeze, my heart been broke and my shit frozen on zero degrees…”
Back in March, Rod Wave liberated his third studio LP SoulFly, a 19-track offering that sees a single assist from the Floridian star’s XXL Freshmen crony Polo G. The project was a massive success, scoring Wave his first number one placement on the Billboard 200 thanks to 130,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. Another chart-topper in his own right, YoungBoy was currently working on his forthcoming body of work Sincerely, Kentrell, which has so far been led by well-received singles like “How I Been,” “Green Dot,” “Toxic Punk,” “I Ain’t Scared,” “Territorial,” and “White Teeth.” Unfortunately, YoungBoy has found himself dealing with legal trouble following a recent arrest in Los Angeles. Currently, the Baton Rouge talent is dealing with death hoaxes in Louisiana’s St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
