There’s always some dope new talent emerging on the scene in music whether it’s Hip Hop, R&B or Pop and one solid act that we’ve seen in recent years goes by the name of Rod Wave. Since his introduction in 2016 (his debut mixtape Hunger Games), Wave has been on a steady rise to the top year after year. Although Wave isn’t a household name (yet), he sure does stream like one and has the ability to easily capture new ears like one. Today, the 22 year old rapper joins the music release fun and drops off his new album SoulFly.

Wave’s SoulFly will be his third album and is a follow-up to his 2020 album Pray 4 Love which peaked at number two on the Billboard 200. Prior to that, he dropped his major label debut Ghetto Gospel in 2019 which peaked at number 10 on the US Billboard 200. Speaking of his label, Alamo Records, the Florida rapper had a short-lived beef with them surrounding his lack of payment. In a post to his Instagram story, he stated: “Pussy ass label playing wit a nigga shit I ain’t dropping shit fuck ya pay me. Y’all wanna album ask @alamorecords.” On a brighter note, it didn’t take long for his public apology to Alamo and assured that things were all good with them.

In a sit down with Billboard last year, the rapper spoke on music giving him a purpose:

“I didn’t know where I was going to end up. I was scared to even have people depending on me. I just wanted to get away and do my own thing. So if I fail, I fail on my own. But now, I’m making music and actually living life and being the one that people depend on. It feels good. It gives me a reason to wake up. It gave me a purpose.”
