It’s great to see artists put out work with intention, and it’s even greater to see two generations colliding while doing so. Calboy has teamed up with none other than the legendary Lil Wayne for his latest single “Miseducation.” The two joined forces for the official music video as well, which brings viewers through a plot that showcases the realities of getting caught up in the streets just as your dream is coming true. For his first verse, Calboy includes several references throughout:
Through the dark, hoodie on, like I’m Trayvon. I got shooters like the hoopers in my hood, like K Nunn/ Playin’ victim, you know what you did, why you play dumb? Crazy thing, my niggas knew about it, they ain’t say nothin/ This Percocet gon’ get me higher (Higher) I got to sleep and get to talkin’ to Lerayah/
She said, “Relax, my brodie, I’ve been sendin’ my love”/ You tryna kill yourself, there’s no result to fire, feed your soul like Lauryn Hill and some Wyclef/ Pray to the Lord, He give me guidance in the right steps/
Calboy was far from inactive in 2020, and it kicked off with his February release Long Live The Kings, which originally saw six tracks and additional features from G Herbo, Lil Baby, and Lil Tjay. Months later, the Chicago rapper would unveil a deluxe version of that project, adding on six additional songs and new features. In addition to his own work, Calboy could also be found contributing to tracks like YG’s “Thug Kry” and the late Pop Smoke’s “Diana.”
Only adding to last year’s achievements, Calboy also joined the likes of Polo G, CHIKA, Rod Wave, Lil Keed, Jack Harlow, and NLE Choppa as the most recent inductees of the XXL Freshman class, further increasing his exposure to the masses. Within that, Calboy, Mulatto, Fivio Foreign, and 24kGoldn also made headlines for their viral freestyle cypher.
