Currently, CHIKA is sailing off her recent induction into this year’s XXL Freshman class, which sees her joining the likes of Lil Keed, Polo G, Mulatto, and NLE Choppa. Recently, she also scored a bit part in the new Netflix film Project Power, which stars Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and centers around a pill that can generate temporary super powers for those to utilize it. In addition, the Montgomery, Alabama rising star also contributed to Project Power’s soundtrack via the single “My Power,” an upbeat cut that lets the listener know their unlimited potential:
“My eyes are 20/20 for real its a flex, adolescence taught me gotta hustle and deal for a check, afterward I seen I know the dream cuz it’s real in effect, even when feelings detect, someone else dealing the decks/
Somewhere on the journey we all bound to get tired, when life get lower, we get higher, the roads all open, the views get wider, live long, head strong, shoulders, lighter…/”
The accompanying clip begins with CHIKA speaking to her Project Power co-star Dominique Fishback about the track. She can then be seen recording her bars in-studio while choice scenes from the aforementioned film appear throughout.
This year has been a bust one for CHIKA. Just before the release of “My Power,” she revealed another single titled “U Should,” which sees production from Terence “TEE” Lam, Kuya, and Lido, the last of whom provided the soundscape for “My Power.” Prior to that, she dropped the EP Industry Games, a collection of seven tracks filled with the skill sets that thrust CHIKA into the spotlight in the first place. She also delivered a memorable NPR Tiny Desk performance just before the Coronavirus pandemic landed us all in quarantine.
