This Friday (February 12), slowthai will be releasing TYRON, which contains 14 cuts and additional appearances from A$AP Rocky, Kwes Darko, Denzel Curry, James Blake, Mount Kimbie, and more. Just before the release of his sophomore album, the Northampton emcee liberates a new visual for “CANCELLED,” a Kelvin Krash, SAMO, and Kwes Darko-produced cut that reconnects him with Boy Better Know frontman Skepta. The collaboration is essentially a middle finger to all detractors:
“How you gonna cancel me? Twenty awards on the mantelpiece, Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, girls in the crowd got their hands on me/
I bet you wanna cancel who? Fuck with the cult, now the gang’s on you, I’m a vampire, got the fangs on you, now you’re dripping blood…/”
As with previous slowthai videos, the clip for “CANCELLED” goes off the rails almost as soon as the music arrives. Following a hilarious — and very British — recreation of a certain Budweiser commercial, slowthai is almost immediately seen murdering a random individual with an ax. Skepta keeps the same energy throughout, moving from a scene of him peeling off a face mask to having a hook for a hand and dancing around the woods with a chainsaw. It’s definitely the kind of video that will garner a few replays.
TYRON follows slowthai’s 2019 debut Nothing Great About Britain, a critically acclaimed effort that boasted 11 cuts and assists from the likes of Mura Masa and Jaykae. A digital deluxe edition was later released with six additional songs.
