This year has seen slowthai releasing a slew of dope singles, giving fans hope that a new album is set to arrive sooner than later. Following the cuts “ENEMY,” “MAGIC,” and “BB (BODYBAG),” the Northampton-hailing emcee returns with “feel away,” which features assistance from James Blake and Mount Kimbie. The song was released in honor of his late baby brother, and takes on a more heartfelt approach than other releases with lyrics about love and relationships:
“We don’t go on dates, we went our separate ways, and we don’t conversate, she said I’m playin’ games, she said she feels trapped, stuck up in this f***in’ maze, how you been? I been better than yesterday/
And it was just a day, you know I don’t complain, atandin’ in the rain, soakin’ wet tryna demonstrate, that I don’t feel a way, I never hesitate, what’s on your mind? Can you say what you’re thinkin’, babe?/”
While the accompanying visual does contain some of that warmth, things quickly turn trippy — slowthai is first seen in a maternity ward with his pregnant girl before they switch places, and a now-pregnant slowthai heads to the operating room. During all of this, his girl quickly begins an affair with the doctor and get married right in front of him, before he gives birth and — in a presumed nod to the horrifying meme that’s recently taken over social media — is revealed to have been a cake, providing plenty of nourishment for her girl’s apparent wedding guests. Things then turn back to normal, with the couple sleeping in their hospital room before someone comes in and begins eating their cake-filled baby. Add in the fact that all of the men were enjoying cake at the beginning of the video, it’s clear that fans will never see a clip from slowthai without a nice helping of twisted humor.
