Last month, PnB Rock unearthed a new single titled “Rose Gold,” a track notable for its posthumous appearance from King Von. Produced by IRoccOnTheBeat, DJ Young Pharaoh, and London Jae, the melodic cut sees mixing between past life on the streets and current wealth and success — Von can also be heard rapping about how he planned to live his life before his last day:

“Before I die, they gon’ remember me, for bein’ in these streets and slangin’ heat, ain’t ducked no enemies, I want the toughest n***a, I ain’t never prayed upon the weak, and your lil’ baby mama lip real good, but that bitch pussy weak/

These lil’ boys can’t fuck with me, four-five Glocks, they stuck to me…/”

As first revealed through PnB Rock’s social media, the accompanying visual sees the Philadelphia artist in King Von’s old Parkway Garden neighborhood — better known as O Block — with many of Von’s old crew. While PnB Rock can be seen riding in a car and performing through a fire-lit entryway, it’s those crew members that stand in for Von during his verse, making for a bittersweet-yet-powerful moment within the clip.

In a tragic twist, “Rose Gold” follows another single from PnB Rock titled “Ordinary,” which features Pop Smoke — another rising hip hop star who transitioned both violently and well before his time. Prior to that, he teamed up with Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz for “Fendi.” His last official LP, the sophomore drop TrapStar Turnt PopStar, was released in May of 2019 and saw 18 tracks with several assists from Lil Durk, Tee Grizzley, XXXTentacion, Quavo, Diplo, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and more. That project proved to be successful, landing PnB Rock within the top five of the Billboard 200 thanks to 42,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release.
