It’s been almost a year since The Weeknd released his latest studio LP After Hours, a 14-track marvel of a project that the Canadian star his fourth number one of the Billboard 200 thanks to an impressive 444,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. Around the same time, fans also received both a deluxe edition of After Hours, as well as a Remixes EP that boasted additional assists from Chromatics, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Lil Uzi Vert, among others.
This week, The Weeknd drops off a new visual from the album for “Save Your Tears,” a synth-heavy cut produced by Oscar Holter, DaHeala, Max Martin, and The Weeknd himself that’s centered around an old, failed relationship:
“I saw you dancing in a crowded room, you look so happy when I’m not with you, but then you saw me, caught you by surprise, a single teardrop falling from your eye, I don’t know why I run away, I’ll make you cry when I run away…/”
The visual comes courtesy of Cliqua and shows The Weeknd after what looks like some pretty extreme plastic surgery for his face. The singer is seen performing in front of a mysteriously dark, masked crowd, and at one point scared a beautiful women to death by having her point a gun at his head. At the end, it’s all an act which received a positive response from the audience.
“Save Your Fears” follows a slew of dark, Fear and Loathing-esque clips from After Hours for tracks like “Heartless,” “Blinding Lights,” “In Your Eyes,” “Until I Bleed Out,” and “Too Late.” 2020 also saw The Weeknd contributing his unique talents to other songs like Juice WRLD’s “Smile,” Calvin Harris’ “Over Now,” Maluma’s “Hawái (Remix),” and the hilarious “Family Guy” number “I’m A Virgin.”
