Attorneys for the family of Quawan Charles are calling for the arrest of Janet Irvin — the last woman to allegedly see the 15-year-old before he died, CBS News reported. Ronald Haley and Chase Trichell reportedly believe the woman can be detained on “a slew of charges” following the release of new audio that seems to implicate her in the teen’s passing.

In the recently-released recordings, Irvin admits she failed to call police after realizing Charles broke free from her home. “Yes, I should have called the cops. I should have went further,” Irvin is heard saying.

Her son — who was also present that night — is also heard telling a private investigator that he and Charles “smoked some weed” before he disappeared. “That was it,” he said in the audio recording.

According to Haley, Irvin committed a crime the moment she did not call the police to report Charles’ disappearance. “She knew something was wrong and did nothing,” she said. “It speaks volumes as to what her involvement was in this case.”

As REVOLT reported, Charles went missing on Oct. 30 — the same day Irvin picked him up from his father’s Baldwin, Louisiana residence. His remains were found four days later in a sugarcane field not too far from his home.

An autopsy report indicates the teen possibly died from drowning, but the family’s attorneys question the validity of the results as they claim the water in the field was very shallow. They also believe that Charles’ indulgence of any drugs that night could have contributed to his death. Haley and Trichell are awaiting toxicology and histology results to determine whether drugs were in Charles’ system when he died.

“We think the toxicology report is going to vindicate what we’re saying today,” Trichell said. “Janet Irvin could be charged with delinquency to minors, serving minors drugs.”
