Today saw the release of Lil Yachty’s Lil Boat 3.5, a deluxe edition of his May release Lil Boat 3 that adds eight additional tracks and some new collaborations to the overall body of work. One of those new cuts is “Flex Up,” which features Future and Playboi Carti and sees the artists delivering rockstar bars over production from Southside, Pyrex, and ATL Jacob:
“Six speeds, Bentleys, APs, that shit light, two-piece, FNs, red dots, chop your height, his bitch posted us on her story, now he tight, my bitch, she know better, she do that and she might die/
I was buyin’ Birkins at eighteen, that’s why she don’t mind the B’s, fuck you mean? My Spur fatal, rock ‘em, cradle…/”
In what looks like a self-filmed visual, Yachty, Future, and Carti turn up from inside someone’s theatre, adding in night vision, blur effects, and more to make the experience that much more entertaining.
Originally, Lil Boat 3 saw 19 tracks and features from Drake, DaBaby, Tierra Whack, A$AP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator, Lil Durk, Young Thug, and more. The project also landed the Atlanta star within the top 20 of the Billboard 200 thanks to 30,000 units sold during its first week of release. Prior to that, he released the defiant LP Nuthin’ 2 Prove in 2018.
In a recent interview with SSENSE, Lil Yachty spoke on his role within the Atlanta rap scene and how he separates himself from others:
“I make music for teenagers, bro. Maybe in a relationship, or just got broken up with, or happy and in a good place! If you like the storytelling, that’s cool, but it’s mostly just about teenage emotions. Oh my god! I think that’s what I’m gonna call my next album.”
