Last month, IDK signaled the release of his new project is on the horizon by presenting his new single “King Alfred” featuring Lil Yachty. This week, he returns by dropping the visual for his recent “2 Cents” track, which was co-directed by the rapper himself. On the song, IDK opens up with his hook about having his own 2 cents:
“Cute face, nice ass, but she’s schemin’ on the low. I just cut to the chase, ask her, ‘Do you want the pole?’ New friends? No way, they be schemin’ for the dough. Ring the bell, I open up, see they face and close the door. I got my own two cents, if you know what I mean. I got my own two cents, if you know what I mean. I take the check over the trip, if you know what I mean. I pick the mortgage over rent, if you know what I mean.”
The new song is is expected to appear on U SEE 4 YOURSELF, which would be the follow-up to IDK’s September 2019 debut album Is He Real? Back in June, he dropped IDK & Friends 2 (Basketball County Soundtrack), which is the second installment of is IDK & FRIENDS series that debuted back in 2018. IDK & Friends 2 included guest appearances from Juicy J, PnB Rock, YungManny, Rico Nasty, Big Flock, Big JAM, and Weensey. A year ago, IDK liberated his debut album Is He Real.
In a past interview with REVOLT, IDK spoke on seeing commercial success without actually succumbing to the characteristics:
“Being true to yourself, talking about the issues that you wanna really actually talk about, not acting like you’re something else. But, understanding that maybe sometimes your shit gotta be shit you can sing along to. I was thinking that the same way when I made “Pizza Shop.” If you think about that first verse, and really even the second verse, you can sing-a-long to that whole song. I remember when I was making it, I was like, ‘yo I wanna say … I used to want to hang like Dae Dae,’ ‘cause I know that when I drop the beat at a show, and I say that, everybody’s gonna be about to say that.”
