Last month, Machine Gun Kelly unveiled his fifth studio album Tickets To My Downfall, a more alternative project than his previous efforts thanks to production from rock-and-roll veteran Travis Barker. This week, he liberates a new video from the LP for “forget me too,” which features Halsey and sees the two ready to break things off with each other completely:
“I saw you walk in the room and I tried my best, not to panic while I’m lookin’ for the back door, I smelled the perfume and it’s obvious, I’m gonna stay and put my key in the bag more/
I can’t, I can’t, I can’t pretend to forget, you’re the reason I punched a hole in the wall back home, and then, and then, and then a couple hours later, we’re in room 29 at The Chateau…/”
The Philip Andelman-directed clip shows MGK and Halsey essentially mimicking each other movements separately, walking around the house in a rage and finding themselves trapped and floating in a magic 8-ball. They eventually converge in the living room to finish the song with Barker on drums, before Halsey disappears and Kelly quickly rides off on his motorcycle.
The clip for “forget me too” follows previous ones for Tickets To My Downfall cuts “drunk face,” “my ex’s best friend,” “concert for aliens,” and “bloody valentine.” The project also earned Machine Gun Kelly his first number one album to date, moving 126,000 album equivalent units during its first week of release.
In a recent interview with NME, Kelly spoke on the initial critics of his pop-punk album:
“I watched the entire internet try to make a meme of me … They were like: ‘Haha! Look at the guy on the table believing in himself!’ I’ve been the guy jumping up and down on the table believing in myself for-fucking-ever. … Also, f*** you to any of the motherf***ers on the internet who tried to make a joke of what is now the Number one f***ing album.”
