Earlier this month, Famous Dex released his sophomore studio album Diana, which sees 17 tracks and assists from Wiz Khalifa, Rich The Kid, Jay Critch, Fivio Foreign, Tyga, and more. This week, he drops off a new visual from the project for “Solar System,” which features Trippie Redd and sees production from Gezin, Dez Wright, and OZ. The airy, melodic cut is filled with bars of being high enough to leave the planet:
“Yeah, I be so high I can get up, I be so fly, they wanna stick-up, your b***h, she comin’ back, I’ma hit her, I f*** her one time then she get out, yeah/
Ooh, I’m about paper, yeah, I’ll have to see you later, yeah, all these n***as turning fakers, yeahI pull up then I sprayed ARs, yeah…/”
The Jared Asher Harris-directed video shows Famous Dex and Trippie Redd on the moon in astronaut gear, smoking, dancing, and hanging with an alien.
Having been teased through leaks in the past, Famous Dex revealed to XXL why he knew that “Solar System” needed to appear on Diana:
“Trippie Redd, he’s a rock star slash pale devil guy. Heartbroken, lovable guy. He’s on the hook singing, ‘Got a lot of weed in my system.’ Everybody right now smokes weed. It’s so fire. I had a show at Alabama College and I performed it and they knew it. I was like, ‘What the f***!’ I said to myself, this got to be on the album. That’s one of them jumping-up-and-down songs.”
Diana follows Dex’s quickstrike EP, DEXTER 2031, that was released in January — just before the world came to an abrupt halt due to the Coronavirus pandemic. His debut LP, Dex Meet Dexter, was released back in 2018 and saw 14 cuts with features from A$AP Rocky, Drax Project, Diplo, and more.
