The 2020 election will be the first time many people make their way to the polls, but it’s also the first time some have registered to vote. On Tuesday (Oct. 13), Snoop Dogg posted a YouTube video documenting his registration process with hopes to encourage others to do the same.
WIth a blunt in hand, Snoop walked viewers step by step as he registered to vote for the first time through California’s online portal. He noted how quick and easy the process is, but was disappointed to learn that the questions about parole were toward the end of the form.
“This is the shit I was talking about,” he said. “This would be the discouraging moment at the end of the vote for me… But guess what? It’s not. Fuck what they talking about.”
He then went on to declare his support for California’s Proposition 17 which “enables all parolees to be able to vote.”
The Los Angeles Lakers fan previously informed fans that this year would be his first time voting, admitting he didn’t know he was eligible to vote with his criminal record.
“I ain’t never voted a day in my life, but this year I think I’ma get out and vote ’cause I can’t stand to see this punk (Donald Trump) in office one more year,” Snoop explained. “For many years, they had me brainwashed thinking that you couldn’t vote ’cause you had a criminal record. I didn’t know that. My record’s been expunged, so now I can vote.”
Snoop’s recent video is one of his many efforts to encourage people to go to the polls on Nov. 3. The rapper demonstrated how voters can cast their mail-in ballots via the “Drop It In The Box” advertisement.
He also launched an online voter registration drive titled #VotewithSnoop alongside social justice initiative OneOpp and voting advocacy groups Rock The Vote and 1 VoteCloser.
“As I’m looking around at what is happening in the world right now, I know that we need to make an immediate change, and we can’t sit back idle which is why, along with OneOpp, I’ve partnered with Rock The Vote and 1 VoteCloser,” he said in a statement. “I’m gonna use my voice and influence to let people know that the only option is to get out and vote.”
