It’s official. After many weeks of contemplating who would be formidable opponents for both Snoop Dogg and DMX, we’ve now learned that the two hip hop legends will be battling one another in the next Verzuz. Dog eat Dogg style!
This major announcement was made on Verzuz’s Instagram with a post that read, “The battle of the dogs‼️‼️‼️ @DMX vs @SnoopDogg. Wednesday, July 22nd. Watch on our IG or in HD on @AppleMusic. Drinks by @Ciroc. #Verzuz.” The dope graphic of the message shows two dogs side by side, as well. How fitting.
Back in May, Snoop said that he would be interested in doing a Verzuz with JAY-Z. “Biggie passed away, and then Nas had it for a minute, and then JAY-Z took it and ran with it for a numerous amount of years. And then 50 Cent came and ran with it for a numerous amount of years,” the Doggfather told Fat Joe in their IG Live conversation. “This is me looking in from the outside, looking at New York rap. So, to me, it would be either a Snoop or a JAY-Z because he’s been the king of New York around the time I was the king of the west.”
DMX previously admitted that he wanted to go against Hov, as well. “[Eminem] don’t want it,” the It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot rapper said in the video. “I rather go against my arch-nemesis… He can play ‘Money, Cash, Hoes,’ then I can play ‘Money, Cash, Hoes.’”
Even 50 Cent — another New York rapper — recently expressed that he would be down to take Snoop on in a head-to-head virtual showdown. “It would make more sense catalog wise, me and Snoop, ‘cause we could compete every step of the way,” Fif explained to L.A. radio personality Big Boy. “Ja Rule? He got like five, six good duets. The hit records are all him and Jennifer Lopez, him and Mary J. Blige, him and Ashanti.”
However, it looks like Ruff Ryders’ own DMX is the New York MC who was chosen for the battle with the west coast rap legend. So, who y’all got? The east or the west?
