A man who was allegedly friends with up-and-coming rapper Woadie2live was arrested in connection with his fatal shooting.
As NBC 5 reported, 23-year-old Bailey Phillips aka Bandman Fari was taken into custody, interviewed by detectives and transported to the Dallas County Jail, where he’s booked on a murder charge and is being held on $250,000 bond. The arrest came amid an investigation into a shooting that took place outside of a nightclub in South Dallas.
According to police, on Monday morning (Sept. 6) at 2:36 a.m., officers responded to calls of gunfire at the intersection of Botham Jean Boulevard and McKee Street.
There, they discovered 21-year-old Woadie2live, born Tylynn Dawayne Payton Walter, shot near the FiveAM Theater with a gunshot wound to the neck, per ABC affliate WFAA. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead after succumbing to his injuries.
The probe into Woadie’s shooting remains active as officers investigate Bandman Fari’s motive in the shooting. Fans and social media users, however, believe that Bandman — who appeared in some of the rapper’s music videos — was jealous of Woadie’s gradual come up on the rap scene.
After news spread of the 21-year-old’s sudden death, those who were close to him penned heartfelt messages in his honor.
“Man my heart can’t take no more I’m lost for words I don’t know what to say. My brother really gone man,” Asian Doll wrote on Instagram next to pictures and videos of her and Woadie. “Hug, Love & Enjoy Your People While They Still Here,” she continued in a follow-up tweet.
Additionally, Woadie’s manager Israel penned a touching caption thanking the late star for trusting him to help with his career. “This one really hurt,” he wrote. “Thank you for trusting me as your manager and friend then. Rest in Heaven my boy.”
