It’s clear that The Weeknd is very hyped about delivering a new album to the masses, which we all are hoping will happen soon. As previously reported by REVOLT, the Canadian star recently released a series of tweets providing some detail as to where they project is — he also confirmed that a supporting tour is already in the works:
“Massaging it now, being sweet to it. giving it some tlc … Just so there’s no confusion, it’s a full body of work … The tour is gonna be MADNESS.”
Then, last night (August 1), The Weeknd really got fans excited with a message that seems to confirm a release is imminent:
Fast forward to now, and we now have a teaser trailer titled “The Dawn Is Coming,” which is about as cryptic as one would imagine. Clocking in at roughly a minute and a half, those watching can hear a snippet of a new song while the screen quickly moves over water towards the sun in the distance.
Upon its eventual release, the new LP will follow last year’s After Hours, a behemoth of an album that skyrocketed to the top of the Billboard 200 thanks to 444,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release — the project also saw more than a million users pre-adding the album on Apple Music, breaking the streaming platform’s record for the most in history. After Hours also rested pretty comfortably on charts in various counties around the world. As of this past March, the album has been certified double platinum in the United States.
In a recent interview with GQ, The Weeknd announced that he would be quitting (hard) drugs, a big change from the outside looking in given the prevalence of drugs in his music:
“Drugs were a crutch. It was me thinking that I needed it. And not doing the work to figure out how not to need it. And I’ve spent the last few years realizing that and thanking God that I don’t need it.”
