A$AP Rocky is still a fashion killa. Rocky, who was recently announced as the first Guest Artistic Director for PacSun, put together two capsule collections for the California lifestyle clothing company. Rocky used his A$AP Worldwide imprint to create collaborative offerings with both Vans and Russell Athletic.
Flacko’s had several fashion partnerships in the past — Under Armour, Dior, adidas, Raf Simmons — but for his latest output, the goal was to partner with a classic footwear brand and an apparel brand that is known for premium fleece, according to a press release.
“This partnership is special to me because it’s a collaboration that combines my roots, A$AP Worldwide, and some of the most respected heritage brands that have roots in both the sportswear and lifestyle worlds, said Rocky. “Together with PacSun, we will be releasing several limited edition collections that are both nostalgic and forward at the same time.”
For the fiery Vans and A$AP capsule collection, Rocky added flame designs to the popular Old Skool silhouette. The shoes come in a black canvas and white leather colorway. The Russell Athletic and A$AP Worldwide capsule taps into the sportswear brand’s heritage and consists of t-shirts, shorts, pullover hoodies and sweatpants. Rocky incorporated a skull motif for the graphic hoodies and sweatpants, while the volley shorts and T-shirts feature contrast stitching and a chenille logo graphic.
In addition to the threads, Rocky created an exclusive short film to celebrate the release. The short film was directed by Aisultan Seitov and Rocky and inspired by his love for two 1994 films: Richie Rich and Blank Check. The Harlem-bred rapper even recorded a new song to serve as the soundtrack for the short. Within the 90s-inspired visual, Rocky and a group of young hipsters throw a party in a mansion complete with a half-pipe to skateboard on. The short film was shot in Beverly Hills and serces as a visual lookbook as well with the Vans Old Skools being worn by Rocky and the rest of the partygoers.
As REVOLT previously reported, Rocky will oversee the brand campaigns, in-store activations at PacSun DTLA and Soho flagships, plus the viral components to support the launch. Collections are available now at PacSun.com and over 200 PacSun retailers nationwide. The Vans collection ranges from $100–$130, and the Russell Athletic collection is priced between $40–$90.
