Rising Ohio rapper Boog The Bandit was shot and killed in Columbus yesterday (May 20), local news outlet 10 WBNS and more have confirmed. Boog, whose real name is Courtney Nicole Bruce, was reportedly pronounced dead at the Mount Carmel East Hospital around 6 p.m. local time, where she checked herself in after being shot.
Police say Boog was the victim of an attempted robbery in east Columbus on Thursday evening when the shooting occurred. Authorities believe the 27-year-old and one other person were sitting inside a car between East Livingston Avenue and Beechwood Road when a group of men armed with handguns approached. Several shots were fired during the confrontation, police say.
The rapper then walked to the hospital, which alerted authorities. She was reportedly pronounced dead just moments after being admitted. Currently, police have reported no leads on a potential suspect in the shooting. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at (614) 645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS (8477).
DJ IQ, the host of “The Catch Up Show” on Columbus’ iHeartMedia station 1067 The Beat, remembered Boog to HipHopDX.
“I feel like I was listening to a superstar in the making when I heard her music,” he told the outlet. “She was a natural at what she did in hip hop and in life.”
Boog was best known for her YouTube hits “Heart Away” and “Risky,” both of which were released earlier this year. She also gained considerable traction last year with her studio singles “Hot Topic” and “Lonely.” HipHopDX also reports that Boog was gearing to record a collaboration with fellow Columbus rapper Trippie Redd prior to her death.
We at REVOLT send our deep condolences to Boog The Bandit’s family, friends and fans at the time.
