While mourning the tragic passing of DMX on Friday (April 9), fans are taking to social media to discuss the late rapper’s debut album It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot.

The LP, which was released in 1998, undoubtedly launched X’s musical career. It peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spent 101 weeks on the chart. The album featured the hits “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem,” “Get At Me Dog,” “How’s It Goin’ Down,” “Niggaz Done Started Something” and “Damien.” It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot also featured guest appearances by Mase, The LOX, Drag-On, Loose, Big Stan and Kasino.

On Friday (April 9), fans shared how the Ruff Ryders emcee’s album changed their lives. Twitter user @xkubrick tweeted, “DMX was a major inspiration for my rapping and producing. I studied It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh… up and down, front to back. Dude deserved so much better, RIP to a legend.”

“I say without any exaggeration that It’s Dark And Hell is Hot saved my life,” tweeted @DavidDTSS. “Just like it saved rap. 1998 was a rebirth for rap music as one of the genre’s best years ever. And It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot was the Big Bang.”

Social media user @VoLinxx wrote, “I remember when It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot dropped and how it made me feel. It hit different for people with depression. DMX felt my pain and frustration. His music got me through some dark days. Prayers up for a legend.”

“I was in a terrible car accident in the 90s & It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot got me through some rough nights & dark days,” tweeted @KeishaEboni. “I put it on repeat and started the healing process. MAD LOVE BOO #RIPDMX.”
