Lil Wayne will soon be taking a Los Angeles stage alongside some friends and artists from his Young Money label. On Wednesday (April 7). GKUA — the rapper’s cannabis and lifestyle band — announced his upcoming performance at the Torch, “a scaled-down capacity, general admission venue” in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
According to an Instagram post from the brand, the “Uproar” event will take place on Aug. 13 — the reported date of the Coliseum’s grand reopening following an extensive renovation. The show will feature a slew of performances from Wayne, and “a lineup that reflects the collaborations and relationships of the hip-hop icon’s decades-long career.”
According to Forbes, the concert — which will be followed by an after party — is the first of many Weezy events at the L.A. Coliseum. GKUA recently entered an exclusive agreement with the venue to host 4/20 events, which will include in-person and virtual parties, performances, and other events. The deal lasts five years with an option for renewal.
“GKUA is about feeling inspired,” Wayne told Forbes. “I’m looking forward to sharing that GKUA inspiration from the LA Coliseum. It is time to celebrate with friends.”
With vaccines currently available, live shows are slowly but surely making a comeback. Over the weekend, Boosie and Webbie reunited at a Houston club, where they reportedly hit the stage together for the first time in five years. Entertainment venues in New York have reopened. Benny the Butcher also announced his 22-date “The Burden Of Plugs” tour, which is slated to start in Atlanta and will come to a stop on Nov. 19 in Austin, Texas.
Tickets for “Uproar” featuring Lil Wayne and more will go on sale on April 20; early access tickets are already available. Health and safety guidelines consistent with COVID-19 protocols will be applied at the event.
