After an ongoing run of performances and consistent music releases, Megan Thee Stallion is taking a much-needed break. The Houston emcee took to social media on Thursday (April 22) to announce her hiatus from the spotlight, but unlike the typical tweet, she revealed the news in an innovative way.
Meg shared a series of posts on her Instagram account. In the first post, she’s captured wearing what appears to be a futuristic version of an oxygen mask. The post was flooded with comments from fans who assumed she was teasing a new project. In a follow-up post, a video shows Meg — who dons the aforementioned mask and the bodysuit from her Good News photoshoot— in a liquid chamber.
The third post finally gives fans the information they’re looking for. “Megan Thee Stallion is recharging!” read a message in the clip. “Due to the demands of the Hot Girl lifestyle, Meg has now entered a period of regeneration to prepare for what’s next. In her absence, mgmt will manage all social posting[s] on behalf of Thee Hot Girl Coach. Thee Hotties lead a brave //RESISTANCE in anticipation for the return of their Fearless Captain!”
Since Megan catapulted to mainstream success, she has been working nonstop. In the last two years, she dropped her Fever mixtape and her albums Suga and Good News. She also released a slew of music videos, featured on tracks with the likes of Maroon 5, Doja Cat, Cardi B and Beyoncé, and nabbed a few awards for all of her hard work.
When the pandemic knocked many down, she flexed her philanthropic side and entertained fans with her virtual performances, all while recovering from being the victim of a shooting. Needless to say, Megan’s break is absolutely necessary.
It’s not clear how long the hiatus will last, but Meg is scheduled to perform in July at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami. On Twitter, she told fans that she’ll be “back when it’s time.”
