Mulatto’s hard work in the music industry is paying off! On Tuesday (March 30), the Atlanta star took to social media to give fans an update on her accomplishments thus far, and she revealed she’s officially a platinum-selling artist.
“I woke up a platinum selling artist!!!” she tweeted. Later in the day, she posted a photo of her posing with two RIAA plaques in front of a sign that reads “congrats.” A closer view of the photo shows that one of the awards is for her hit single “Bitch From Da Souf (Remix)” which is now certified platinum. The second one commemorates another achievement as her Gucci Mane-assisted “Muwop” has officially sold 500,000 units, making it a gold-selling record. “I told ya’ll I was the biggest,” she penned her caption.
In another post, Big Latto added that the recent success of “Bitch From Da Souf (Remix)” has allowed her to make Atlanta history for a second time. “I was the first solo female rapper from ATL to go gold,” she penned in a tweet. “Now I’m the first solo female rapper from ATL to go platinum too!”
“Bitch From Da Souf (Remix),” which features fellow rap stars Trina and Saweetie, was released in December 2019, later becoming the emcee’s first-ever entry into the Billboard 100 chart. The accomplishment came just one day after she told fans that the single helped her cement her name in Atlanta history. “1st solo female rapper from Atlanta with a muthafucking plaque!!! I just made history!!!” she posted at the time. “QUEEN OF DA SOUF 8/21 @bankrollgotit @saweetie @trinarockstarr @djyoungpharaoh THANK YOU.”
Aside from earning RIAA plaques, Mulatto’s success has come with some trending moments and a little bit of controversy. Following the release of her XXL freestyle and most recently, her version of SpotemGottem’s “BeatBox,” her name trended on Twitter as fans praised her for her lyricism and wordplay. Her moniker, however, has sparked debates about its racist connotation, prompting her to make the tough decision to change her stage name.
Though fans have no idea what Mulatto will call herself in the near future, the rapper said she has chosen a new name that she’ll announce at a later date.
