When Bobby Shmurda became a free man on Tuesday (Feb. 23), he transitioned back into his rapper lifestyle without skipping a beat, and it’s all thanks to Quavo.
The Migos rapper recently shared his plans to pick Bobby up from prison during an interview with Billboard. “I’m going to get my guy,” he said. “I’m personally gonna go pick up Bobby Shmurda. I’m bout to go get him. I’m gonna let him show you how I’m gonna pick him up, yessir.”
As promised, the “Workin Me” rapper — whose group formerly collaborated with Shmurda on a ShMigo mixtape — was there to witness the Brooklyn rapper walk out of prison. His present to the “Bobby Bitch” star: a private jet in which he could make his trek home.
“Did six and didn’t switch. Welcome home @realbobbyshmurdags9,” Quavo wrote on Instagram alongside video of Shmurda exiting the private jet. On Twitter, he captioned the same clip, “Welcome home gang. Stayed down, we BACK UP!!”
Ahead of Shmurda’s release, the Quavo Huncho star anticipated the moment with a throwback post of a past studio session with the “Hot Nigga” rapper, but he wasn’t the only celebrity to count down the days until Shmurda would be freed from custody. The rapper’s GS9 affiliate Rowdy Rebel also shared a few posts. In his most recent one, he wrote, “In less then 24 hours, we all will witness history. I kno yu can’t sit still bro.”
Shmurda was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2014, but after six years behind bars, his good behavior and participation in prison programs earned him a conditional release that cut 10 months off of his original bid. While on the private jet, the Brooklyn star FaceTimed his mother, and upon his return home, he and his family will celebrate with a private dinner.
