Chlöe Bailey proved her “Have Mercy” performances are just getting better after wowing fans with her set last night at the Cardi B-hosted 2021 American Music Awards. Wearing a white leotard and flowing cape, the 23-year-old descended down to Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater stage as her song started playing.
For extra drama, a vocal choir opened “Have Mercy” with an opera-inspired intro as the Atlanta native made her descent. Once she touched ground, dancers helped Chlöe remove her cape and the show began.
Launching into the hit song, the “Feeling Good” singer paused for frequent dance breaks and led her team of dancers across the smoke-filled stage. Chlöe ended the performance on a high note with an energetic choreography set, complete with hair flips, splits and more.
On Twitter, many fans hailed Chlöe’s performance as the best of the night and praised her wide-ranging vocals, dancing and commanding stage presence.
“CHLOE BAILEY ATE THIS!!!” one person tweeted.
“Let’s not forget, Chloe Bailey legitimately has ONE solo song and is able to put on the most commanding performance of the night. Unreal,” another wrote.
Halle Bailey, Chlöe’s 21-year-old sister and the other half of their R&B duo, also applauded the set online.
“Chloe murdered!!!!! I’m shaking,” she tweeted.
Chlöe released “Have Mercy” as her first solo single on Sept. 10. The track debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart and within the Hot 100’s Top 40. In an interview with Refinery 29, she previously said the song is “about me responding to everyone and almost really owning who I am and accepting myself and my body.” She added, “The person that I am on the song is where I’m trying to get mentally.”
Later on Sunday night, Chlöe reflected on her AMAs performance on Twitter.
“It was all a dream! Had the best time at the AMAs performing from the Xfinity stage,” she wrote, adding, “GOD IS GOOD!!!! So grateful!!!”
