Chlöe Bailey may be the brunt of scrutiny on social media, but if there’s one thing that doesn’t bother her, it’s being compared to Queen Bey. On Friday (Oct. 15), the 23-year-old singer sat down with “The Breakfast Club” to promote her debut single “Have Mercy.” Amid the interview with DJ Envy, Charlamagne tha God and Angela Yee, she said that she was honored by the Beyoncé comparisons she’s heard over the years.
“I’m grateful. That’s the biggest compliment!” she said before opening up about her bond with the 40-year-old star. “We talk about any and everything. I’m just so grateful to have her stamp of approval,” she said. “She always gives me words of encouragement, you have no idea how much that means to me.”
As for Beyoncé’s thoughts on the comparisons, Chlöe revealed that the “Formation” singer thinks it’s “pretty dope.” “What she kinda says, it’s like, okay, that’s pretty dope, because she’s been there,” said the “Have Mercy” star. “To know that the advice that she’s giving me is exactly from the place I’m in is pretty cool and inspiring.”
Since launching her solo career, Chlöe has been criticized for her sex appeal on Instagram as well as her impassioned performances. Most recently, after taking the stage at “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” she responded to critics who suggested that she was being extra. “Doing ‘too much’ is my specialty,” she penned in a tweet.
Despite the criticism and comparisons she’s faced, however, Chlöe admits she finds solace in knowing that Beyoncé is cheering her on. “She says she’s really proud of me…,” she said. “I just love her, and I’m happy that she sees this light inside of me and my sister as well.”
