Back in June, Eve briefly returned to the stage to perform 20 of her greatest hits in a Verzuz battle against Trina. The competition saw the two emcees compete virtually as the Ruff Ryders star rocked out in London alone and watched on as the Miami rapper took the stage in front of a live crowd. Amid the battle, she mentioned that she longed to be in Florida with Trina, but it turns out there’s a great reason why she wasn’t.

During a recent interview with “The Breakfast Club,” Eve was asked about her experience doing a Verzuz, and she revealed the news she’d learned just moments before the battle.

“Well what’s crazy is, that’s when I just found out I was pregnant,” she told the radio crew. “I literally, newly, was pregnant. And I was stressed thee fuck out, because my stylist didn’t bring me no clothes. So that whole day, I had a meltdown right before we went on.”

Ultimately, Eve expressed that she “loved” the battle, adding she was grateful to Swizz Beatz for understanding that she was unable to fly to Miami and for keeping her pregnancy a secret.

“I loved it because it was Trina…and it was Swizz,” Eve explained. “And he took care of me, and Swizz knew, which is why I didn’t fly to Miami. I was supposed to fly to Miami and at the last minute, I didn’t. I had to tell Swizz and he was like, ‘All good sis. We got you.’ Of course, my brother—I love him so much. So I was stressed out. I was like, ‘Am I standing too much?’ I kept thinking about the baby. … ‘Am I screaming too much? Can you rap when you’re pregnant?’ That’s all I thought about. I don’t know, it’s my first kid.”

Months after thoughts and questions swirled in her head about her pregnancy, Eve decided it was time to share the good news with the world. Less than a week ago, she officially announced that she and her husband are having a baby. “Can you believe it @mrgumball3000?” she captioned the post. “We finally get to tell everyone!!!!! You all know how long we’ve been waiting for this blessing!!! We get to meet our lil human February 2022.”
