Aside from her catchy bars and her creative visuals, Cardi B was often known for her political takes. Recently, however, the rapper has taken a step back from sharing her thoughts on politics, and she’s finally revealed why.

On Thursday (Oct. 14), a fan who took notice of Cardi’s silence took to Twitter in search of an explanation. “@iamcardib Used to talk about politics & political matters! What happened with that?!??” the user asked, to which the emcee frankly responded, “I was tired of getting bullied by the Republicans and also getting bashed by the same people I was standing up for.”

A critic hopped in the conversation and provided her own reason for Cardi’s reluctance to share her political opinions. “Cuz you sound like you’re slow when you talk and it was ruining everything,” wrote the user. The Bronx native responded, “It was the only way YOU would understand me.”

Cardi had been vocal about politics, noting she was always interested in history. During the 2020 presidential election, she called on her followers to go to the polls and sat down with presidential candidates to ask some important questions.

The “Up” emcee, for example, spoke to Bernie Sanders about a heap of issues in America, while emphasizing on the issues of police brutality during her interview with Joe Biden.

“I want Black people to stop getting killed and no justice for it,” she told the president. “I’m tired of it. I’m sick of it. I just want laws that are fair to Black citizens and that are fair for cops, too. If you kill somebody who doesn’t have a weapon on them, you go to jail. You know what? If I kill somebody, I’ve got to go to jail. You gotta go to jail, too. That’s what I want.”

Now, however, Cardi has refrained from her political commentary, and there are a few people who understand her sentiments. After her tweets landed on Instagram, T.I. said that he “agreed” with the 29-year-old star. “Sadly I understand and sometimes I feel the same,” added activist Tamika Mallory.
