Drake will not be releasing his highly anticipated sixth studio album this month.

The Nothing Was The Same emcee took to his Instagram story to share the disappointing news about the delay of Certified Lover Boy with his fans. “I was planning to release my album this month, but between surgery and rehab my energy has been dedicated to recovery,” he wrote. “I’m blessed to be back on my feet feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won’t be dropping in January. I’m looking forward to sharing it with you all in 2021.”

Fans shared mixed reactions to the news. Some fans were upset that they wouldn’t have new music to Drake ‘n drive to, while others weren’t surprised that the album was pushed back. Twitter user @bansky tweeted, “Drake really pushed his album back so he can rehab a knee injury for the 2021-22 NBA season that he’s not going to play in. What kind of life?”

“Drake has never dropped an album on time and y’all thought this time was different LMFAOOOOOO,” tweeted @tsnmikira.

While celebrating his 34th birthday last October, Drizzy announced that his forthcoming project would be released at the top of 2021. The four-time Grammy award winner released a promo video that included recreations of his former album covers, such as So Far Gone, Take Care, Nothing Was the Same and Dark Lane Demo Tapes.

Last year, the Toronto native also spoke to Diddy about how the pandemic helped him focus on his sound. “Obviously, God has us all inside the house right now… so the amount of focus that I’m able to put into this album is probably way different than it would’ve been…” Drake told the REVOLT Chairman. “… Definitely, this is the most excited I’ve been about an album in a long time.”
