The man who was arrested for invading Eminem’s home back in April reportedly had plans of killing him.

As the Detroit Free Press reported, Matthew David Hughes, the 26-year-old who has been in custody since the invasion, appeared in court for a hearing earlier today (Sept. 9). During the preliminary examination, Adam Hanstock, the officer who responded to calls of the intrusion, took the stand to share his account of the night.

According to Hanstock, he arrived to a fight between the security guard and Hughes. The invader was eventually detained, and a conversation between him and Eminem, who did not appear in court, ensued. “When Mr. Mathers asked him why he was there, he was told by Hughes that he was there to kill him,” Hackstock said, mentioning Hughes did not have a weapon in hand.

Based on security footage, the man spent “quite some time” outside Eminem’s home before successfully entering through the kitchen window and coming face-to-face with the rapper. The “Lose Yourself” star screamed for help upon realizing a stranger was in his home and awoke his security who managed to restrain the invader until cops came.

Hughes was reportedly on the search for Slim Shady long before the April intrusion. In June 2019, he approached two properties within hours of each other, telling one of the homeowners he was “looking for my brother Marshall [Mathers].” He was arrested for trespassing and charged for malicious destruction of property after cops realized he’d tried to enter both locations.

Following Eminem’s home invasion, Hughes, who prosecutors argue may be homeless, faces charges of first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of a building. He is being held on a $50,000 cash bond. Judge Judge Jacob Femminineo Jr. denied requests to lower the bond, but he ruled there is probable cause to move forward with a trial. Hughes is scheduled to appear in Macomb County Circuit Court for an arraignment on Sept. 28.
