Over the weekend, Eminem revealed his picks for the greatest rappers of all time on Twitter. YouTuber No Life Shaq prompted the conversation with a video series where he challenged rappers to share their favorite emcees.
“I had to try with Em. I had to try with Em. Of course, Em not gonna respond,” Shaq said in a clip after directing messaging Slim Shady about hit G.O.A.T. picks. “That one kinda hurt my heart a little bit because I wanted Em to say himself.”
However, on Saturday (June 13), Em responded to Shaq’s question on Twitter and listed his favorite rappers in no particular sequence.
“For me, in no particular order… Toss up between [Lil] wayne, pac, royce [Da 5’9”], jay, redman, treach, g. rap, biggie & king crook,” he tweeted, followed by “Plus redman, LL [Cool J], nas, joyner [Lucas], kendrick [Lamar], [J.] cole, andré [3000], rakim, [Big Daddy] Kane.”
Of course, the Music To Be Murdered By spitter’s G.O.A.T. list prompted several reactions, including messages of appreciation from Joyner Lucas and KXNG Crooked.
“If you played ball and studied Michael Jordan as the greatest, and then Michael Jordan name drops you as one of the greatest ball players of all time. That’s how this feels to me,” Lucas posted on Instagram along with a photo of Em’s tweets.
“Now how the hell did I make Eminem’s greatest rappers ever list and not yours??” KXNG Crooked shared on his Instagram. “I got more work to do I see.”
In an interview with Variety earlier this year, Em revealed the new rappers he finds most promising.
“We had Young M.A. on the album [Music To Be Murdered By], and she’s definitely one of the new artists that I’m super excited about — every time she puts something out, I listen,” he told the outlet. “And the guys we have signed to our label, Griselda, that’s exciting. YBN Cordae, he’s dope.”
