Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is throwing his support behind Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris in the upcoming 2020 US election.
The prominent actor made his endorsement of the Biden-Harris ticket on Sunday (Sept. 27) with a video that features a conversation between the two nominees. It’s the first time The Rock has ever publicly placed his support behind a candidate in the presidential election.
“I’ve never publicly endorsed a presidential candidate or vice presidential candidate in my life,” Johnson about his choice to back Biden-Harris. “You guys are both experienced to lead, you’ve done great things. Joe, you’ve had such an incredible career, and you’ve led, in my opinion, with such great compassion, and heart, and drive—but also soul.”
The Rock, who used to be a Republican, announced the switch of his political party preference to independent in 2017. In the video, he speaks highly of Biden and Harris and calls them the clear choice. He also sang Harris praise for her career background and journey.
“You have been an attorney, a district attorney, a state attorney, a US senator—smart, tough,” The Rock said of the Vice President nominee. “I’ve seen you in those hearings, and in my opinion you’re a certified badass.”
The Fast & Furious star reiterated his choice for Biden and Harris on Twitter and is calling on his more than 14 million followers to get registered to vote. He also noted that he has voted for both parties in the past.
“Progress takes courage, humanity, empathy, strength, KINDNESS & RESPECT,” he said in the pinned tweet.
This summer, the wrestling legend blasted President Trump following the police killing of George Floyd and made a plea for a change in leadership.
