Drake doesn’t want to steal Kehlani’s spotlight.
On Friday (May 8), the Toronto native responded to a headline that claimed he helped Kehlani name her latest album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. “Nah why is this the headline tho,” Drake wrote to his Instagram Stories in reference to the headline that read, “Kehlani Explains How Drake Helped Her Name Upcoming Album.” He added, “Anyways your album is incredible. The headline should be ‘Kehlani drops a life soundtrack’ congrats @kehlani @boi1da BLESSINGS!!”
While appearing on “R&B Now with Nadeska,” the 25-year-old songstress opened up about her sophomore album. She also recalled a conversation with Drizzy in which she decided on the LP’s title. “We had went to Canada to finish our — I always say ‘our’ album because I f—k with my team so heavy, like, it was me, my videographer, my little play brother that I co-write with, my assistants,” she explained. “So, I went to go finish the project, and the last day we went with Boi-1da and ended up going to Drake’s house.”
She added, “We’re just having, like, a life conversation, talking about the old music, talking about what we’re both ‘bout to do.’ And then I was just talking about [my] personal life and I was just like, ‘Man, yeah, it was good until it wasn’t’ and he was like, ‘Say that s—t again,’ and I was like, ‘What?’ and he was like, ‘That’s your album.’ And I was like, ‘You might be f—kin’ right.’”
At the moment, Drake is focused on creating new music as well. Last month, he dropped his mixtape, Dark Lane Demo Tapes, which he explained was a treat to fans until he releases his sixth studio album this summer. He also revealed that the upcoming LP might feature a guest appearance from his mentor, Lil Wayne.
