Kehlani has released the official tracklist for her sophomore album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. The 15-track LP will feature appearances from Tory Lanez, Jhené Aiko, Lucky Daye, Masego and James Blake.
The project ends with a track titled, “Lexii’s Outro.” The song pays tribute to the late rapper, Lexii Alijai. The two friends first collaborated on “Jealous” from Kehlani’s 2015 mixtape, You Should Be Here. In January, Alijai passed away from an accidental overdose.
On April 24, Kehlani revealed the cover art for the album on social media. In the visual, she is standing on an overturned chair and holding a running water hose. She is also looking over a brick wall into her neighbor’s yard.
“The album cover is a depiction of the never-ending duality of good and bad. It’s a tale of perspective,” the “All Me” singer said in a press release. “The sun is shining, the sky is blue, but clearly something has gotten my attention. Paired with the back cover, we come into the question of is the grass really greener on the other side? Good things are good… until they aren’t. Then, were they ever really good?”
The album was originally supposed to be released sooner, but Kehlani pushed it back due to COVID-19. “To be transparent,” she tweeted back in March. “I HAD a release date.”
“We’re unable to complete any of our plans or move forward with the album at the moment due to the pandemic,” she continued. “Not thinking about music at the moment, focused on how to just be a good citizen to society at this time. Stay SAFE luv y’all.”
Fans have taken to Twitter express their excitement about the forthcoming album.
Twitter user @distractjhelani tweeted, “JHENE AIKO AND KEHLANI????????? JHENE AND KEHLANI????????????????? NOBODY. TALK. TO. ME. DONT. FUCKING. TALK. TO. ME.”
Social media user @kingbrujx wrote, “TORY LANEZ, MASEGO, JHENE AIKO, AND LUCKY DAYE ARE ALL FEATURED ON KEHLANI’S ALBUM. I’M GOING TO SCREAM.”
The album is set to drop Friday, May 8. Check out the full tracklist for It Was Good Until It Wasn’t below.
