Hip hop is mourning the loss of 21-year-old up-and-coming rapper Houdini, who was fatally shot outside of a hotel in Toronto’s Entertainment District on Tuesday (May 26). According to CP24 News, a 15-year-old boy and 27-year-old woman were also injured in the shooting. All three victims were reportedly rushed to a local hospital, where the Toronto-bred rapper sadly passed away from his injuries.
Tory Lanez, Meek Mill and others have reacted to the tragic news on social media.
“I’m trying , and I can’t fight the tears from falling .. i can’t even find the words for a speech right now,” Lanez wrote in a post on Instagram, adding photos of his late friend. “YALL TOOK MY FUCKING NI**A AND ALL HE WANTED TO DO WAS LIVE !!!!!! #RIPHoudini 4 Ever !”
Meek Mill also shared a photo of Houdini on Instagram, writing, “Rocked WIT YOUNGBULL VIBE AS A PERSON RIP! PRAYERS TO HIS SIDE!”
Fellow Canadian hip hop artist and Houdini’s collaborator Killy also reacted to the sad news, writing, “Rest In Paradise Brother [Houdini]” in an Instagram post.
“Young Legend!! This One Hit Real Close.. Greatness breeds Jealousy Prayers Up,” Killy added.
According to Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders, local authorities believe that Houdini was targeted in the shooting. The unidentified suspect had allegedly been sitting in his car for 40 minutes, waiting for the rapper to arrive. So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.
Houdini had just recently released his Hou Woulda Thought (Deluxe) album, following the initial project’s release in 2019. The “Backseat” rapper received co-signs from the likes of Lanez and NAV and had also recently unveiled his underGROUND EP and a collaborated single with Killy and 6ixbuzz called, “VV’s.”
