YNW Melly is asking to be released from prison after he tested positive for COVID-19 while awaiting his murder trial.
According to TMZ, Melly’s lawyer Bradford Cohen filed legal documents claiming that the “Murder On My Mind” rapper is suffering from severe chills, heavy breathing, headaches and body aches. Cohen says that his client only weighs 114 pound and medical personnel at the prison have not been monitoring him every hour like they are supposed to.
Cohen also claims that Melly is sharing a cell with another inmate who has also tested positive for COVID-19. Cohen has fears about whether or not “the virus can be mutated or passed reoccurring between individuals.”
He also claims that the prison was not prepared for this type of epidemic because “they have not given them masks, or cleaning supplies that would be beneficial regarding his recovery. This is against all recommendations of the Surgeon General and CDC.”
Melly is asking the judge to be released from prison and placed on house arrest. He is also asking to be treated at a medical facility, at his own expense.
Last week, his team revealed that the rapper tested positively for Coronavirus.
“Melly has tested positive for COVID-19 today while awaiting his trial in Broward County Jail,” the post from his team reads. “He’ll be filing a motion for restricted release in hopes of better care due to any jails not being prepared to treat this new virus. He hopes for your support and to recover soon #prayformelly send positive energy to him please.”
Melly has been incarcerated for a little over a year now after the rapper was arrested and charged with the murders of two of his friends Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. Melly maintains his innocence and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
