Today (April 24), Benny the Butcher released his new single “Da Mob,” featuring his Black Soprano Family artists, Rick Hyde and Heem. The track marks the first offering from Benny’s forthcoming joint EP with DJ Drama called Gangsta Grillz X BSF Da Respected Sopranos and the inaugural release from his newly launched label partnership with eOne.
According to a press release, Benny’s record label deal between his Black Soprano Family imprint and eOne will usher in a wave of new projects, both from him and his rostered artists. Fans can also expect a label compilation project before the end of the year after Benny announces more of his roster.
“This is a dream come true to me,” Benny said of the new partnership in the release. “A dream that started in my head in 2011 while I was in prison. The seeds were planted while I was at Elmira Correctional Facility and when I was released in 2012, I’ve spent every day since working to bring this vision to fruition.”
“It’s been one of my dreams to do a label deal and put my homies in position to win,” he continued. “I want to expose the talent from my area and I want to expose the world to the talent they may not have heard unless it was brought to you by Black Soprano Family; I see us as leaders; I’m cut from that cloth.”
Aside from his Griselda Records collaborations with Conway the Machine and Westside Gunn, 2019 saw two solo projects from Benny, including The Plugs I Met and Statute Of Limitations. This year, he’s looking to release more solo music and bolster the next wave of up-and-coming talent, starting with his first label signees, producer Rick Hyde and rapper Heem.
“What Benny has done to keep his work in the forefront since 2009 has been incredible,” eOne Executive Vice President Sean Stevenson said. “eOne is driven by great talent and having BSF in the family only adds to what we can do now. This first track is the start of more big things to come from Benny, Rick Hyde and Heem, and we are proud to be playing a part in it.”
Speaking with Complex, Benny elaborated further about his upcoming solo releases, including a Hit-Boy-produced project and a collaboration with Drake.
“I’ve got a crazy project in the truck. It’s produced solely by Hit-Boy, with some good features on there. It’s feel-good music,” he told the outlet. “And I’ve got a whole other project, produced solely by Harry Fraud, with some dope features on there. It’s safe to say, I’m going on a tear. I’m about to tear sh*t up.”
Speaking about his record with Drizzy, Benny said, “It’s definitely going to see the light of day… People are definitely going to hear it.”
