In 2018, the Obamas partnered with Netflix to produce films, series and documentaries for the streaming platform. Their Higher Ground production company has since released a few projects, including children’s show “Listen to Your Vegetables & Eat Your Parents” and Oscar award-winning documentary American Factory. Now, they’re working on a project that hits close to home.

The former first couple is set to produce a loose adaptation of the nonfiction bestseller The Fifth Risk by Michael Lewis, which details Donald Trump’s 2016 transition into the White House. “The G Word with Adam Conover” — a comedy-documentary series — will not only discuss Trump’s administration, but will also provide a broader look into the ways “the United States government affects our lives in countless ways, from the food we eat to the money in our bank accounts,” the show’s synopsis reads.

Last month, Adam Conover — host of truTV’s “Adam Ruins Everything” — took to Twitter to express his excitement about being a part of the series. “Very happy to finally be able to share this news: I’m creating a new comedy series for Netflix about the federal government,” he tweeted. “It’s called ‘The G Word,’ and I can’t wait to share it with you.”

“The G Word With with Adam Conover” is set to begin production in 2021.

“We think there’s something here for everyone—moms and dads, curious kids, and anyone simply looking for an engaging, uplifting watch at the end of a busy day,” former first Lady Michelle Obama told Elle about the Higher Ground’s upcoming shows. “We can’t wait to see these projects come to life — and the conversations they’ll generate.”

Since leaving the White House, the Obamas have been telling other people’s stories via their production company, while revealing a lot more about their own personal journeys on other platforms. Former POTUS Barack Obama just released his A Promised Land book. Michelle published her Becoming memoir in 2018, later releasing the documentary on Netflix. She also has a self-titled podcast on Spotify.
