Christmas is less than two weeks away, so Roddy Ricch decided to spread some holiday cheer to the children in his native neighborhood. Over the weekend, “The Box” emcee became Compton Santa Claus and hosted a toy drive, bringing smiles, presents and relief to many families.
Much like Mr. Claus, Ricch flew into the neighborhood with tons of presents on Saturday (Dec. 12). Instead of arriving in a sleigh, however, he opted to fly in style and make his entrance in a helicopter. Upon landing, he helped to distribute gifts to all the families waiting on a two-mile line.
Ricch’s donations were praised by Real 92.3 radio host DJ Hed who acknowledged the rapper’s “huge success” on Twitter.
“No news coverage, no other ‘media’ outlets, not one ‘journalist’ in attendance,” he penned in a tweet. “It don’t matter, my bros Toy Drive was a huge success in Compton today. A 2 mile line of cars for the city! Salute my young homie #RoddyRicch & #Bird for another win! @RoddyRicch #TheCoastGuard.”
Last year, Ricch took the stage during TDE’s annual charity concert and toy drive that helped to provide those “in Nickerson Gardens community with things that all children and families should have around the holidays, such as gifts, clothing and food,” per Billboard.
“I’m still very involved in my community,” he previously told GQ of his current ties to Compton. “I give back, and I’m always there for the homies. That’s one of the biggest parts of what I do. We do a lot of giveaways, things like that, but those aren’t things I put out there with the media. I’m still very active with where I come from, so it’s not hard to stay connected at all.”
While Ricch has helped to make the holiday season special for families in Compton, Meek is preparing to do the same in Philadephia. Earlier this month, he took to Twitter and shared his desire to team up with Sony and Microsoft and add the latest video game consoles to the list of toys he plans to give away.
