Last night, the American Music Awards honored some of the best acts in music in one of the first live award shows since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. The night — hosted by Taraji P. Henson — was filled with wins and monumental moments for the hip hop community.

During the live event, Nicki Minaj won the award for Best Latin Song alongside Karol G for their hit “Tusa.” The rapper — who recently celebrated the decade year anniversary of Pink Friday — also took home the title for Favorite Rap/ Hip Hop Female Artist.

“Best female HIPHOP & Best LATIN SONG “TUSA” w|@karolG!!! she wrote on Instagram alongside a celebratory video. “The barbz keepin they foot on yall neck chile. Omg my fans always know how to rock the VOTE. lol. I love you guys so much. Thank you AMA!!! I’ll see you next year.”

Megan Thee Stallion took the stage on behalf her and Cardi B as their “WAP” collaboration was designated this year’s Favorite Rap/ Hip Hop Song. “I can’t believe I be getting away with these ‘FUCK YOU’ rings everywhere. WAP won Favorite Rap/ Hip Hop Song tonight,” she said in her reaction to the win.

The Invasion of Privacy star thanked fans for their support with an audio message. “Thank you guys soooo much,” she wrote alongside the post. “Me and Meg really appreciate all the love from fans, celebs everybody that supported the song. Also thanks for voting. Ugh if I would have known all this was going down today I would of rescheduled my dentist. I’m so swollen.”

The Weeknd, Roddy Ricch and Juice WRLD also took home awards last night (Nov. 22).

In terms of musical entertainment, Stallion graced the stage with a debut performance of “Body.” Lil Baby told fans to “protect your mental health” in a vulnerable performance of “Emotionally Scarred.” Nelly performed a slew of hits in honor of the 20th anniversary of Country Grammar, and Bell Biv Devoe took viewers back with their performance of “Poison.”
