If you’re not familiar with Tone P, you’re probably familiar with his music. Following early success as a member of Best Kept Secret, the past decade or so has seen the D.C. producer crafting hits for the likes of Wale, J. Cole, Meek Mill, Raheem DeVaughn, and more. In the past two years alone, Tone P has been proving himself to be a full-blown talent in his own right, building momentum via well-received singles like “America,” “Miracles,” “Lost Time (Get Up),” and “Sassy” with CCB and Keke — he also assisted the iconic band Rare Essence on “Don’t Mute DC,” which has become an official rallying cry against the detrimental effects of gentrification throughout his city.
Today (August 20), Tone P returns with his latest single “2 Official,” a posse cut of sorts alongside fellow DMV stars Will Tha Rapper, Lightshow, AAO, and Crank Lucas, the last of whom has had considerable success as a multi-platform content creator. The song matches a go-go backdrop with some of the hardest-hitting bars from the artists to date, all of whom pay tribute to the greatness — and realness — that the D.C. Metro area offers:
“From the start at CFE, we bring guns and 223’s, I been all through the DMV, I can’t explain the shit you see, but that mambo sauce and wings, that’s the smell of D.C., don’t be loafin’ at them let outs, that shit hell in D.C., I made my own go-go band, call that shit M-A-C, so if he let his mouth speak, I’ma send him a bounce beat…”
As can be seen on social media, “2 Official” also sees a matching visual featuring a makeshift go-go in full effect — complete with beautiful women and some high-end car action. Expect that clip to reach the surface sooner than later.
In the meantime, press play on Tone P, Will Tha Rapper, Lightshow, AAO, and Crank Lucas’ new collaboration. UPDATE: Now with Tone P.’s official video.
