Six months after the Capitol riot unfolded, cases regarding the insurrection are still filing in.
According to a report CNN posted earlier today (July 13), five members of a Texas family were arrested for entering the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6. Federal authorities arrested them today.
In order to make their arrests, investigators searched social media posts from the family members. Looking through Facebook posts from Thomas “Tom” Munn, the patriarch of the “nuclear” family, they found posts in which he called on people to visit the Capitol building in DC on Jan. 6 as former President Donald Trump instructed.
Authorities allege that, the day before the riots, Tom, his apparent partner, Dawn, and their children Kristi, Josh and Kay, drove from Texas to DC. Thanks to a tipster, investigators also saw a Facebook post in which Kristi and some the family pose in camouflage outfits. The caption reportedly read: “Washington D.C. here we come !!! #StopTheSteal #TrumpisMyPresident.”
For another social media post, one that reads like a diary of the events from the day, Tom Munn allegedly wrote that “patriots began chanting ‘they are stealing our country’ and ‘press forward’ as they were carrying the wounded out through us.”
Although a sixth member of the family allegedly also visited the Capitol the day of the riot, they weren’t charged, presumably because they’re a minor.
This news is just the latest example of someone or someones being charged for things they allegedly did during the riot. Back in May, it was reported that over 400 people had been charged up to that point. CNN reports that that number is now at over 530. And considering the lengths that investigators have gone to in order to find perpetrators, that number should only increase.
